Um, what file shows up as March The last PUBLISHED hash key text file is from March, yes, but, MakeMKV doesnt need that file. MakeMKV is a format converter, otherwise called 'transcoder'. I have stated this before, but I would like to see a link that would also allow us to donate so Mike can see his program is appreciated. I find this program very valuable and worth the one time fee. If you are not going to buy a license, then why complain? The right thing to do would be to just wait for the new free key to be available and be glad that it is available and thank Mike for providing that free key. I am not rich, and $50.00 is not a small amount in my current situation but I place value in MakeMKV and feel that it is worth the money. ![]() There are other programs that do similar things but, oh yes, you have to pay to use them. What I am saying is if you are not willing to support a program that is beneficial to you, then why are you using it. Mike goes out of his way to keep the program current and relevant. In that way I was able to support the program so that it would continue to grow and become better. Turn off your WiFi, and set your computer calendar to something in July. When I first found MakeMKV last year and started ripping my discs, after I new that I felt the program would be beneficial to me, I went ahead and paid for a license. For anyone frustrated by this wonky system and is locked out today. I really don't understand why people are upset about the key issue. If you wish to continue to freeload of Mike’s generosity (cause he can make the app pay only at anytime he wants like other more expensive ripping software out there), then you WILL wait. Like insurance, biology, government, national defense, planting food, computer passwords, and the availability of salsa in my fridge. It’s a good thing this approach of allowing the current thing to become non-functional before its replacement is available isn’t followed in most areas of life. You act like that’s a normal thing in the world. Just relaying my own experience is all.Onthuhlist wrote:“.whenever a key expires before the new key is issued.” (And FYI, I haven't heard of anyone else having the same experience w/MakeMKV that I've had and I'm not trying to turn anyone against it either. There is the most current beta key code for the MakeMKV beta version, which can be used in Windows, macOS, and Linux versions for Bluray and DVD ripping. But the way it worked out I'm glad I found Fab+Handbrake instead. C:\Program Files (x86)/MakeMKV/nf does not exist. MakeMKV is a great tool and if you asked me when I first started I'd have been more than happy to pay $50 for it. I did a search and it looks like when I added the beta key, it stuffed it in the registry in: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 HKEYCURRENTUSER\Software\MakeMKV 'appKey''T-SU3Ielax7aeMLkvrsQ1FPuoljvaUF7wEg6hr2HSAxSbW4l59h65EHknI5uQmC4FqAG'. So I held my breath and tried again to rip with it and sure enough it crashed 5 minutes in.) ![]() (Which conned me into thinking that whatever my problem was on rips before maybe there had been some kind of driver update or something that had fixed it. And it hasn't caused my laptop to crash yet on first dozen or so movies in my collection I've tried this method on. Which I dunno, may not be the best method for keeping those tracks and saving them back w/the Handbrake video but it works well enough for me. For blu rays with HD audio tracks that Handbrake won't pass through (ie PCM and TrueHD instead of DTS-HD) I run the index.bdmv file from BDMV folder created by Fab through MakeMKV so I can save those audio tracks and then use MKVmerge to merge them with the Handbrake compressed video. Lately I have started using MakeMKV again but not for rips. So that quickly became my standard instead. At first I was disappointed because I had it in mind that I wanted to keep full uncompressed MKVs of my blu rays but once I started using Fab + Handbrake (CQ 21 for blu rays, 19 for DVDs) I found that I could reduce file sizes by half or more without any noticeable drop in quality at all (at least to my eyes). This happened with multiple disks and nothing else running and since I never could figure out why it was happening, that's when I switched to DVDFab's HD Decryptor which has worked fine for me ever since. I tried MakeMKV first and thought it was great but after the first couple rips I started having my laptop BSOD on me at least once for every 2 or 3 rips I tried. ![]()
